A Story of Brotherhood and Violence
Why I Walked Away and Closed the Rope Behind Me
Brian "Jake" Jacobs is a veteran nightclub security professional, martial artist, and former federal law enforcement contractor. Over more than a decade in the industry, he worked his way from the door to head of security, eventually creating a professional training system for club staff grounded in de-escalation, safety, and tactical restraint.
He’s consulted on safety and use-of-force practices, trained teams across venues, and testified as an expert witness in court. Patron Saints is his story — brutally honest, absurd at times, and rooted in a deep desire to protect both staff and patrons in a world fueled by ego, chaos, and alcohol. He lives near Boston with his daughter.
Patron Saints is a memoir-in-vignettes that chronicles Jake’s years running nightclub security. It’s not a tough-guy tell-all — it’s about the moral weight of violence, the absurdity of the job, the loyalty of his team, and the slow, grinding emotional toll that eventually broke him.
Told through raw, nonlinear stories, it explores the strange beauty that occasionally shows up near toilets and chaos — and what it means to try and protect people in a place designed to chew them up.
